1期目 During his first termは経済の回復economic recoveryを最大の目標primary goalに掲げ、「レーガノミクスReaganomics」と呼ばれる大幅減税drastic tax cutsと積極的財政政策expansionary fiscal policiesを実施し、経済の回復economic recoveryと共に双子の赤字twin deficits（貿易赤字Trade deficit（経常赤字current account deficit）と財政赤字budget deficit）をもたらした。
