Then where the hell are we?
じゃあ、ここは一体どこなんだ？
Suddenly, an eerie carrier wave
is heard coming from an exploration ship.
突然、探査船が発する不気味な搬送波が聞こえて来る。
Then the power inside the ship goes down
and it becomes dark.
そして艦内はパワーが落ちて、暗くなる。

The probe.

The spacecraft moves slowly through space.

The bridge lights go out
and are replaced by red emergency lights.

The Bird of Prey is unable to regain its power
and begins to plummet.

and people working nearby were blown away.

We can see
the bird of prey swooping down outside the window.

The bird of prey appears from the low-hanging clouds
and swoops down.
低く垂れ込めた雲の中からバード・オブ・プレイ（猛禽類）が現れ、
急降下して行く。

They’re heading for the bridge!
カークの船が、橋の方へ向かっているぞ！
The Bird of Prey
flies under the Golden Gate Bridge
to avoid a collision.

衝突を巧みに回避する。

The Birds of Prey make an emergency landing
in San Francisco Bay.
バード・オブ・プレイ（猛禽類）は、サンフランシスコ湾に不時着する。
The ship shook violently,
steam spewed from broken pipes,
and sparks flew from the control panel.
船体が激しく揺れ、
壊れた配管からは蒸気が噴き出し、
操作パネルから火花が飛び散る。

We're in the water.
海に落ちたぞ。
Blow the hatch!
ハッチを吹き飛ばせ！
The escape hatch is blown open,
and torrential rain pours into the ship.
脱出用ハッチが吹き飛び、
激しい雨が艦内に吹き込む。

This is the right place, Spock.
もってこいの場所だな、スポック。
Now all we have to do
is get the whales out of here before we sink.
ようし、あとは艦が沈没する前に、

The crew escapes through the hatch.
乗組員はハッチから脱出する。
Kirk heads to the hangar
where Scotty and Gillian are.
カークは格納庫にいるスコッティとジリアンの元へ向かう。
The hallways were starting to flood
and steam was coming out everywhere.
通路は浸水を始め、
蒸気が至る所から吹き出している。

The interior of the ship is badly flooded
and the tank holding the whales is submerged.
艦の奥はひどく浸水し、
クジラ（鯨）がいる水槽は水没してしまっている。
Scotty and Gillian are unable to escape the hangar
due to a tightly sealed bulkhead,
and are completely submerged in water.
スコッティとジリアンは、
固く閉じられた隔壁のために
格納庫から脱出できず、
全身水につかっている。

Lassie, get my hand.

Gillian grabs Scotty's hand
and walks over to him.

The two of them bang on the bulkhead,
calling for help.
二人は助けを求めて、

Then Kirk's voice
comes from the other side of the wall.
すると壁の向こう側からカークの声が聞こえて来る。

Kirk reaches the bulkhead
and searches for a place to grab a grip
to pry it open from the outside.
隔壁までたどり着いたカークは、
外側からこじ開けようと
手を掛ける場所を探している。

I'm here, Scotty!
ここだ、スコッティ！
I'm here!

Kirk finally pries open a bulkhead
and enters the hangar,
where he grabs Gillian's hand
and pulls her out of the water.
ようやく隔壁をこじ開けて
格納庫に入って来たカークは、
ジリアンの手を掴んで
水の中から引き上げる。

You're going to be all right.
もう大丈夫だ。

The whales are trapped.

There's no power to the bay doors.
格納庫のドアには電気が来ていません。

ハッチ爆破用の補助手動装置がある。

It's under water.
でも、もう水の中ですよ。
There’s no way to reach it.
たどり着けませんよ。

You go on ahead.
君は先に行け。
And close the hatch.
そしてハッチを閉めるんだ。
Kirk takes off his jacket
and goes further into the ship
to help the whale free itself.
カークは上着を脱いで、
クジラ（鯨）を逃がすために
さらに艦の奥へと進んで行く。

"Scotty" Scott（ジェームズ・ドゥーアンJames Doohan）：
Admiral, you'll be trapped.
提督、閉じ込められますよ。

行くんだ！
Scotty and Gillian hold hands
and head to the escape hatch.
スコッティとジリアンは、手を取り合って
脱出ハッチへ向かう。
The sounds of whales
echo throughout the ship.
艦内にクジラ（鯨）の鳴き声が響く。
In order to free the whales from the ship,
a large hatch above the tank must be opened.
クジラ（鯨）を艦内から逃がすためには、
水槽の上の大きなハッチを開けなければならない。
Kirk dives underwater
to find the lever to open the hatch.
カークは水の中に潜って、
ハッチを開けるレバーを探す。
He finally finds the lever
and pulls it down with all his might,
blowing off the hatch over the tank.
ようやくレバーを見つけ、
力いっぱい引き下げると、
水槽の上のハッチが吹き飛ぶ。
Kirk then swims out of the ship,
which is filled with seawater.
そしてカークは海水が満ちた
艦内を泳いで脱出する。

In the midst of heavy rain and wind,
the crew who escaped
are barely clinging onto the floating ship.
激しい雨と風の中、
脱出した乗組員たちは、
浮いている艦にかろうじてしがみついている。
Kirk, who had swum away from the ship,
emerges from the water looking distressed.
そこに泳いで艦内から脱出して来たカークが、
苦しそうに、水面に顔を出す。
Spock immediately grabs Kirk's arm
and pulls him up.
すかさずスポックがカークの腕を掴んで
引き上げる。
Soon, the sound of a whale
can be heard from outside the ship.
やがて、艦の外からクジラ（鯨）の鳴き声が聞こえて来る。
But they are nowhere to be seen.
しかし姿は見えない。
カークAdmiral / Captain James T. Kirk（ウィリアム・シャトナーWilliam Shatner）：
Do you see them?
クジラ（鯨）たちは見えるか？
ジリアンDr. Gillian Taylor（キャサリン・ヒックスCatherine Hicks）：
（Pointing 指差して）
Oh!
あっ！
A whale swims slowly in front of Kirk and his friends,
splashing water with its large tail.
カークたちの前に一頭のクジラ（鯨）がゆっくり泳いで来て、
大きな尾で水を跳ね上げる。
Kirk and the others are happy.
喜ぶカークたち。
カークAdmiral / Captain James T. Kirk（ウィリアム・シャトナーWilliam Shatner）：
（Pointing 指差して）
There!
あそこだ！
The other whale comes up to Kirk and the others
and splashes water with its tail.
もう一頭のクジラ（鯨）もカークたちの前まで来て、
尾で水を跳ね上げる。
The two then dive deep into the ocean.
そして二頭は海深く潜って行く。

Why don't they answer?
なんで探査船に応えないんだ？
Why don't they sing?
なぜ歌わない？
Starfleet Command Operations Center

Starfleet Command is powered down,
there are no lights,
and the monitors in the operations center
show only static.
パワーがダウンした、宇宙艦隊司令部は、
照明もなく、
作戦本部のモニターは、
ノイズだけを映し出している。

The whales that have dived deep into the ocean
finally begin to sing.
海深く潜ったクジラ（鯨）たちが、
ようやく歌い出す。
Outer space 宇宙空間
The probe
turns and sends out a carrier wave
in response to the whale's song.
探査船が向きを変え、
クジラ（鯨）の歌に応えるように
搬送波を送る。
Messages are exchanged
between the whale and the research vessel.
クジラ（鯨）と探査船の間で、
メッセージが交換される。
After confirming that
whales do exist on 23rd century Earth,
the probe changes course
and begins to quietly leave Earth.
そして23世紀の地球にクジラ（鯨）が生息していることを
確認すると、
探査船は進路を変え、
静かに地球から離れ始める。
Birds of Prey outside the ship

George and Gracie reappear on the surface
and swim slowly in front of Kirk and the others.
水面に再び姿を現したジョージとグレイシーが、
カークたちの前をゆっくり泳いで行く。
Kirk and the crew celebrate.
喜び合うカークと乗組員たち。
The low, thick clouds that had covered the Earth
quickly cleared.
地球を覆い尽くしていた、低く厚い雲が、
急速に晴れて行く。
Outer space 宇宙空間
A space probe leaving Earth
passes silently by the space dock.
地球から離れて行く探査船が、
宇宙ドックのそばを静かに通過して行く。
Power is also restored to the space dock,
and spaceships that had lost power
and were stranded around the dock
regain function.
宇宙ドックのパワーも回復し、
出力を失って、ドックの周りで立ち往生していた
宇宙船も機能を回復する。
Starfleet Command Operations Center
宇宙艦隊司令部の作戦本部
Power returns to the headquarters,
and lights and monitors are restored.
作戦本部にはパワーが戻り、
照明、モニターが回復する。
カートライト提督Admiral Cartwright（ブロック・ピータースBrock Peters）：
Mister President, we have power.
大統領、パワーが戻りました。

Under a clear, sunny sky,
George and Gracie
are swimming happily in the clear blue waters.
すっかり晴れ上がった空の下、
ジョージとグレイシーは
青々とした海を元気に泳いでいる。
Kirk and his crew are overjoyed
when they see this.
それを見たカークと乗組員たちは、大はしゃぎしている。
The whales then head out to sea,
towards the Golden Gate Bridge.
そしてクジラ（鯨）たちは大海を目指し、
ゴールデン・ゲート・ブリッジ（金門橋）の方へ向かって行く。
A shuttlecraft arrives from the bridge
to rescue Kirk and his friends.
橋の方からは、カークたちを救出に
シャトルクラフト（短距離連絡用宇宙艇）がやって来る。
United Federation of Planets Council 惑星連邦評議会
Parliament during recess.
休憩中の議会。
The council members have left their seats
and are chatting.
評議会員たちは席を離れ、雑談をしている。
惑星連邦大統領Federation Council President（Robert Ellenstein）：
The Council is now in session.
ただ今より評議会を開会する。
If you will all take your seats.
どうぞ、ご着席願いたい。
The council members return to their seats.
評議会員たちは各々の席に戻る。

被告たちをここへ。
The chamber doors open
and Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, Chekov, Sulu and Uhura enter.
議場のドアが開き、
カーク、マッコイ、スコッティ、チェコフ、スールー、ウフーラが入廷する。
Spock, who had been sitting in the gallery with Sarek,
then stood up
and stood before the Council members
as defendants along with Kirk and the others.
するとサレクと共に傍聴席に座っていたスポックが
席を立ち、
カークたちと共に被告として
評議会員たちの前に立つ。
Spock is wearing a Starfleet uniform.
スポックは宇宙艦隊の制服を着用している。

A small round of cheers and applause erupted
from the council members and spectators.

Gillian was also smiling in the gallery.

With loud cheers,
the council members and spectators rose to their feet
and gave Kirk and his team
a thunderous round of applause.

Kirk and the crew embrace each other in joy.

Gillian comes through the crowd of people
who have gathered to shake their hands.

and leaves the chamber with Kirk,
who has been waiting for him.
