At this time, in 1068 (Jiraku 4), Emperor Gosanjo (reigned 1068-72) ascended the throne.

Politics of Emperor Go-Sanjo

In this way, Emperor Gosanjo, who was freed from the restrictions of his maternal relatives, had a strong sense of being anti-Sekkanke (the House of Regents) and exercised direct control of the Emperor, and had relations with the Fujiwara clan. He appointed MINAMOTO no Morofusa (a grandson of Emperor Murakami) and OE no Masafusa, both of whom had little knowledge, and aimed at an autocratic rule to replace the regency.

In other words, he asked the head family, ryoke, and kokushi to submit documents related to the manor, and investigated the immigration after 1045 (Kantoku 2nd year). In contrast to the Hogen Rebellion, which began as a confrontation between nobles and was decided by the samurai, the Heiji Rebellion was a close vassal of the Imperial Court. In the aristocratic society, a sense of crisis of downfall and a sense of history emerged that included reminiscences of past prosperity.

『栄花物語(栄華物語)(えいが・ものがたり)Eiga Monogatari(Story of Splendor)』と『大鏡(おおかがみ)Okagami(The Great Mirror)』には、そのことが端的に示されている。

"Eiga Monogatari" and "Okagami" clearly show this.

"Eiga Monogatari" is the first historical tale written in kana, and was written by Emperor Horikawa from the time of Emperor Uda. 1092 (6th year of Kanji), and describes the prosperity of Fujiwara no Michinaga in fluent and elegant sentences.

First of all, in terms of literature, there is Settsuwa Bungaku, "Konjaku Monogatari Shu".

説話集(せつわ・しゅう)Setsuwa Shu(Anthology of Spoken story)としてはすでに9世紀前半in the first half of the 9th centuryに『日本霊異記(にほん・りょういき)Nihon Ryōiki(Record of Miraculous Events in Japan)』、10世紀末at the end of the 10th centuryに『三宝絵詞(さんぽう・えことば)Sanpo Ekotoba』が生まれていたが、12世紀初めthe beginning of the 12th centuryの『今昔物語集(こんじゃく・ものがたり・しゅう)Konjaku Monogatari Shu(Anthology of Tales from the Past)』は、唐(から)Tang Dynasty(中国China)・天竺(てんじく)Tenjiku(インドIndia)・本朝(ほんちょう)our country(日本Japan)の奇談strange tales・説話Spoken storyを集めている。

In other words, in addition to the "Genji Monogatari Emaki", which depicts aristocratic society based on "The Tale of Genji," the "Ban Dainagon Emaki" ( The theme of the Otenmon Incident) and Shigisan Engi Emaki depict the movements and customs of the common people in cities and farm villages vividly according to the development of the theme, and Choju Giga.
