アイアコス Aeacus
ゼウスZeusとアソポス河神the river god Asopusの娘daughter・アイギナAeginaとの息子son。

ゼウスZeusは鷲eagleの姿に身を変えてアイギナAeginaをシキュオンSicyonの家から奪ってZeus turns into an eagle and robs Aegina from Sicyon's houseアルゴリスArgolisの沖にあるオイノネ島the island of Oenoneに連れて行ったのでhe took her to Oenone Island off the coast of Argolis、のちにこの島islandはアイギナ島the island of Aeginaと呼ばれるようになったLater this island came to be called Aegina Island。
アイアコス Aeacus
アイギナAeginaはアイアコスAeacusを産んだのちAfter Aegina gave birth to Aeacus彼を無人のこの島に置き去りにしたLeft him on this uninhabited island。
アイアコスAeacusは島islandに人を住まわせるようにゼウスZeusに祈った。

ゼウスZeusは蟻（あり） ants （ギリシア語Greek languageでミュルメクスmyrmex）を人間に変えたのでBecause Zeus turned ants into humans、アイアコスAeacusは彼らをミュルミドン人the Myrmidonesと呼んだAeacus called them the Myrmidones。
メガラMegara（アテナイの西の町）の王位throneをめぐるスキロンScironとニソスNisusの争いを仲裁しArbitrate the dispute between Sciron and Nisus over the Megara
throne、ニソスNisusに有利な判定を下したのちAfter making a decision in favor of Nisus、アイアコスAeacusはスキロンScironの娘daughter・エンデイスEndeisと結婚したAeacus married Sciron's daughter Endeis。

テラモン Telamon
そして二人の息子sons・ペレウスPeleusとテラモンTelamonが生まれた。
And two sons, Peleus and Telamon, were
born.
アイアコスAeacusは高潔な心の持ち主として知られAeacus is known for his noble heart、ギリシアが干ばつdroughtに見舞われたときWhen
Greece was stricken by a drought、デルポイの神託Delphic oracleは、アイアコスAeacusの祈りだけが被害calamityを軽くすることができるであろうと言ったOnly
Aeacus prayers could mitigate the damage。
アイアコス Aeacusとテラモン Telamon
ピンダロスPindarによればAccording to Pindar、アイアコスAeacusは、アポロンApolloとポセイドンPoseidonがトロイアの城壁the walls of Troyを築くのを助けたAeacus helped Apollo and Poseidon build the walls of Troy。

やがて3匹の蛇three dragonsが城壁castle
wallを襲ったがEventually three
snakes struck the wall突き破ることができたのは1匹だけでOnly one was able
to break through、それはアイアコスAeacusが建造した個所であったIt was a place built by Aeacus。
その結果、アポロンApolloは、アイアコスの子孫Aeacus's descandants（the Aeacidae）がいつかトロイアTroyを滅ぼすであろうと予言したprophesied。
As a result, Apollo predicted that the
descendants of Aeacus would one day destroy Troy.
ミノス Minos アイアコス Aeacus ラダマンテュス Rhadamanthus
アイアコスAeacusは海のニンフthe sea nymph・プサマテPsamatheとの間にAeacus had with the
sea nymph Psamatheもう1人の息子son・ポコスPhocusをもうけたhad another son, Phocus。
ポコスPhocusは競技に優れていたので兄弟brothersたちの妬みを買った。
Phocus was jealous
of his brothers because he was good at competition.
兄弟brothersたちは彼を殺したため、父fatherによってアイギナ島the island of Aeginaから追放されThe brothers were banished from Aegina Island by their father for
killing him、アイアコスAeacusは孤独な王Kingとして島islandに残ったAeacus remains on the island as a lonely king。
死後はゼウスZeusの命によってAfter death by the order of Zeus、ミノスMinosおよびラダマンテュスRhadamanthusとともに冥府the Underworld（ハデスHades）で亡者を裁く裁判官three judgesになったBecame a judge in the Underworld
with Minos and Rhadamanthus。

「楯の革ひもleather strap of shield」の意meaning。
アイギナ島the island of Aeginaの王King・アイアコスAeacusとエンデイスEndeisとの息子Son。

彼と兄弟brotherのペレウスPeleusは、母motherにそそのかされてHe and his brother Peleus are tempted by his mother、またおそらくは個人的な嫉妬心からであろうAlso probably from personal jealousy、私生児で腹違いの兄弟の競技家A illegitimate and half-brother athlete・ポコスPhocusを殺害したKilled Phocus。
2人は死体を隠したがThe two hid the corpse、アイアコスAeacusは息子sons・2人の犯罪に気付くと2人を追放したAeacus expelled them when he noticed his son's crime。
ペレウス Peleus
テラモンTelamonは、アッティカAtticaの海岸沖にあるサラミス島Salamisに新たな本拠を構えた。
Telamon has set up a new headquarters on
Salamis Island, off the coast of Attica.
2人はのちにThe two later、あの殺人は偶発的なものだったと主張したClaimed that the murder was accidental。
もしくはor、テラモンTelamonは自分としては実際の殺害には加わらなかったのだと宣言しTelamon declares that he did not participate in the actual killing、アイアコスAeacusに帰国を許してくれるよう使者を送ったhe sent a messenger to Aeacus to allow him to return home。
アイアコスAeacusは彼が船で岸に近づきTelamon approaches the shore by boat、甲板から自己弁護するのを黙認はしたがAeacus has tolerated his self-defense from
the deck、弁解をはねつけ、上陸を認めなかったRepelled excuses
and did not allow landing。

サラミス島 Salamis Island
テラモンTelamonはサラミス島Salamisのキュクレウス王King Cychreus of Salamisの娘daughter・グラウケGlauceと結婚marriageした。
Telamon married Glauce, the daughter of
King Cychreus on Salamis Island.
王Kingが死んだとき、息子sonが誰もいなかったので、その王位throneを受け継いだ。
When the king died, he had no son, so Telamon inherited the throne.
グラウケGlauceはその後すぐ死んでしまったらしい。
Glauce seems to have died shortly
thereafter.
大アイアス Ajax the great
なぜならテラモンTelamonはアルカトオスAlcathousの娘daughter・エリボイアEriboeaまたはペリボイアPeriboeaを2度目の妻wifeとしてBecause Telamon has Alcathous' daughter Eriboea or Periboea as his
second wifeアイアスAjaxをもうけたからであるBecause he got Ajax。
テラモンTelamonはアルゴナウタイthe Argonautsと船出して、カリュドンの猪狩りCalydonian Boar Huntに加わった。
Telamon embarked on the Argonauts and
joined the Calydonian Boar Hunt.
ヘラクレス Heracles （ヘルクレス Hercules）
彼はまたヘラクレスHeraclesのトロイア攻略sacking of Troyを助けた。
He also helped Heracles capture Troy.
そのとき英雄heroヘラクレスHeraclesはトロイア王King of Troy・ラオメドンLaomedonが約束を守らなかったためTroy King Laomedon did not keep his promise、王Kingを殺したThen
the hero, Heracles, killed the king。

テラモンTelamonは町の城壁castle wallを打ち破るのに尽力し、最初に城内に入った。
Telamon worked hard to break through the
city walls and first entered the castle.
それは大変な偉業であったがIt was a great
achievement、テラモンTelamonがそこにすぐに祭壇を建てTelamon immediately built an altar there、勝利者・ヘラクレスHeraclesにそれを捧げているのだと申し立てなかったならIf he didn't claim that he was dedicating it to the victor
Heracles、何人も自分より優れていると思われることを好まないNo one
likes to be considered better than himselfヘラクレスHeraclesは腹を立てたことだろうHeracles would have
been angry。
ヘラクレス Heraclesに助けられるヘシオネ Hesione
テラモンTelamonがこの勝利を導くのに果たした役割を考慮してConsidering the role Telamon played in leading this victory、ヘラクレスHeraclesは彼にラオメドンLaomedonの娘daughter・ヘシオネHesioneを奴隷として与えたHeracles gave him Laomedon's daughter Hesione as a slave。
英雄heroはまた父father・ゼウスZeusに、テラモンTelamonに勇敢な息子sonを与えるようにTo give Telamon a brave son頼んだHero also asked his father Zeus。
すると祈りに答えて鷲eagleが現れ、吉兆を知らせた。
Then, in response to the prayer, an
eagle appeared and announced the auspicious sign.
大アイアス Ajax the great
エリボイアEriboeaの産んだその子childはギリシア語Greekの「鷲eagle」に因んでアイアスAjaxと呼ばれた。
The child born of Eriboea was called
Ajax after the Greek eagle.
ヘラクレスHeraclesはサラミス島Salamisを訪れたときwhen Heracles visiting Salamis Island、その子childをネメアのライオンthe Nemean Lionの皮で包み、不死身にしたWrapped the child in the Nemean Lion skin and made it immortal。
テウクロス Teucer
ヘシオネHesioneもテラモンTelamonとの間に息子son・テウクロスTeucerを産んだ。

テウクロスTeucerはアイアスAjaxについてトロイア戦争the Trojan Warに加わった。

テラモンTelamonはヘラクレスHeraclesのアマゾン族the Amazonsとの戦いにも加わってTelamon also joins Heracles in the fight against the Amazons、彼をさらに支援した可能性もあるMay have helped him further。

テラモンTelamonの死については、様々な説がある。
There are various theories about
Telamon's death.
エリスElisの人々はテラモンTelamonがヘラクレスHeraclesを助けて自分たちと戦ったときThe Elis people when Telamon helped Heracles and fought themselves、彼を殺したというがthey said they killed him、通常の言い伝えではIn the usual legend、もっとあとになってMore later息子son・アイアスAjaxがトロイアTroyで戦死するのをテウクロスTeucerが教えなかったことを理由にBecause Teucer didn't tell his son Ajax to die in TroyテウクロスTeucerを追放したあと、サラミス島Salamisで死んだと言われているAllegedly dead on Salamis Island after expulsion of Teucer。
プティア Phthia
ペレウスPeleus
アイギナ島the island of Aeginaの王King・アイアコスAeacusとエンデイスEndeisとの息子son。

彼と兄弟brotherのテラモンTelamonが異母兄弟half brotherのポコスPhocusを円盤で殺した（ポコスPhocusに嫉妬したからかMaybe because they were jealous of Phocus、ないしは2人の母motherを喜ばせるためだったのであろうOr maybe it was to please their mother）ときWhen he and his brother Telamon killed their half-brother Phocus
on a disk、アイアコスAeacusは2人をアイギナ島the island of Aeginaから追放したAeacus expelled them from Aegina Island。

ペレウスPeleusはプティアPhthiaに逃れた。
Peleus escaped to Phthia.
そこのアクトルActor王Kingは彼の罪を浄めたあとAfter the Actor
King there cleansed his sins、王国Kingdomの一部と娘daughter・アンティゴネAntigoneを妻wifeとして彼に与えたGave him a part of the kingdom and his daughter Antigone as his
wife。
アンティゴネAntigoneはポリュドラPolydoraを産んだ。
Antigone gave birth to Polydora.
ペレウス Peleus
それからペレウスPeleusはアルゴナウタイthe Argonautsの遠征に参加しThen Peleus took part in the Argonauts expedition、カリュドンの猪狩りthe Calydonian Boar Huntにも行って、メレアグロスMeleagerが大猪を倒すのを助けたhe also went to the Calydonian Boar Hunt to help Meleager defeat
the Boar。
不幸にも彼はアクトルActorの息子son・エウリュティオンEurytionを殺したので再び追放の身となりUnfortunately he killed Actor's son Eurytion and was banished
again、今度はプティアPhthiaから追われたThis time it was chased by Phthia。
ペリアス Pelias
彼はアルゴナウタイArgonautsの仲間のアカストスAcastusが王Kingとして統治していたイオルコスIolcusに行きHe went
to Iolcus that his fellow Argonauts Acastus reigned as king、アカストスAcastusの父father・ペリアスPeliasのための葬礼競技（そうれい）the funeral gamesに参加してParticipating
in a funeral competition for Acastus' father PeliasアタランテAtalantaと組み打ちをしたWrestled
with Atalanta。
アタランテ Atalanta
だが、その時、また別の不運がペレウスPeleusに降りかかった。
But then another bad luck fell on
Peleus.
アカストスAcastusの妻wife・アステュダメイアAstydameiaが彼に恋したのである。
Acastus' wife Astydameia fell in love
with him.
ペレウスPeleusは彼をもてなしてくれているアカストスAcastusを裏切るつもりはなくPeleus has no intention of betraying Acastus,
who is entertaining him、彼女の気持ちを斥（しりぞ）けたRepelled her feelings。
ペレウス Peleus
そこで彼女は腹いせにSo she got angryペレウスPeleusが彼女の娘daughter・ステロペSteropeと結婚marriageしようとしている風を装いPretending that Peleus is about to marry her daughter Sterope、その知らせをアンティゴネAntigoneに送ったsent the news to Antigone。
アンティゴネAntigoneは嘆き悲しみ首を吊って死んだ。
Antigone mourned and hanged her neck and
died.
それでもまだ満足せずStill not satisfied、アステュダメイアAstydameiaは夫husband・アカストスAcastusにペレウスPeleusが彼女に言い寄ったと告げたAstydameia tells her husband Acastus that Peleus has approached
her。
アカストス Acastus
ペレウスPeleusのエウリュティオンEurytion殺しの罪を浄めたPurified the sin of killing Peleus's EurytionアカストスAcastusは、ペレウスPeleusを殺すに忍びずAcastus can't stand to kill Peleus、彼を騙して追い払おうと決めたDecided to deceive him and drive him away。
そこでアカストスAcastusはペレウスPeleusをペリオン山Mount Pelion中へ狩りに連れ出しSo Acastus took Peleus out for
hunting in the mountains of Pelion、1日で自分よりも多くの獲物を捕らえられるかと挑戦したhe
tried to catch more prey than himself in a day。
アカストスAcastusはこうすればペレウスPeleusが疲れ果てて死ぬだろうと考えたのである。

would be exhausted and die this way.
ペリオン山 Mount Pelion
しかしペレウスPeleusは、自分の勝利を証明するためにBut Peleus wants to prove his
victory獲物の舌を切っておいてCut the tongue of
the prey、アカストスAcastusに何も捕らえられなかったではないかとなじられたときそれを見せたshowed it when he was accused of not catching anything。
そこで夜間にSo at night、アカストスAcastusはヘパイストスHephaestusが作った武器の1つであるペレウスPeleusの剣を牛糞の山の下に隠しAcastus hide one of the weapons Hephaestus
made, sword of Peleus under a pile of cow dung、野生のケンタウロスcentaurが彼を殺すだろうと考えてThinking that a wild centaur would kill him、眠っている彼を置き去りにしたhe left him asleep。
ケイロン Chironとアキレウス Achilles
しかしケンタウロス族centaursの賢者・ケイロンChironがこれを未然に防ぎHowever, the Centaur sage, Chiron, prevented this from happening、剣をペレウスPeleusに戻してやったreturned the sword to Peleus。
それからペレウスPeleusは事の真相を悟るとThen Peleus realizes the truth
of the matter、アルゴ船the Argoに同船したかつての仲間のうちの何人かを集めGather
some of the former companions on board the Argo ship、アカストスAcastusを襲い、アステュダメイアAstydameiaを殺しattack Acastus and kill Astydameia、彼女の真っ二つになった死体の間を通ってPassing between her two corpses自分の軍隊を行進させたMarched his army。
ペレウスPeleusはアカストスAcastusも殺したとする説もある。
There is a theory that Peleus also killed Acastus.

それからペレウスPeleusはイオルコスIolcusをテッサリア人the Thessaliansたちに与えてThen Peleus gave Iolcus to the
Thessalians、自分はプティアPhthiaに戻って、そこで王国Kingdomを手にしたPeleus returned to Phthia and got the kingdom
there。
アカストスAcastusの妻wifeが言い寄るのを拒んで徳の高さを示したAcastus’ wife refused to argue and Peleus
showed the height of virtueペレウスPeleusに、ゼウスZeusは並々ならぬ特権を与えたZeus gave Peleus extraordinary
privileges。
すなわち女神Goddess・テティスThetisとの結婚marriageである。
That is, the marriage to the goddess
Thetis.
しかし、この褒美には隠された動機があった。
But, this reward had a hidden motive.
テティス Thetis
ゼウスZeusは彼自身テティスThetisと関係を持ちたいと思っていたのだがZeus wanted to have
a relationship with Thetis himself、テティスThetisの産む息子sonはその父fatherよりも偉大になる運命にあるThetis's son is destined to be greater than his fatherということをThat meansプロメテウスPrometheusから聞かされてそれを恐れていたhe was afraid of it when Prometheus
told him。
そのためゼウスZeusは急いでテティスThetisを人間と結婚marriageさせたのである。

to humans.
マグネシア Magnesia

ペレウスPeleusは花嫁brideを得るためにPeleus to get a bride、マグネシアMagnesiaの海seaの洞窟caveでIn the sea cave of Magnesia彼女をとり押さえ、取っ組み合いをするかTake her down and Wrestle with her、ないしは女神Goddessが様々な姿をとる間Or while the goddess takes various forms、彼女をずっと放さずにいなければならなかったhe had to keep her going all the time。
クサントス Xanthusとバリオス Balius
結婚の宴Marriage feastは豪華でThe wedding feast is gorgeous、争いの女神goddess of discordのエリスEris以外のすべての神々Godsが招待されたEvery gods except Eris the goddess of discord were invited。
それぞれの神が贈り物を持って来たがEach god brought a
gift、その中には不死の馬・クサントスXanthusとバリオスBalius、それにヘパイストスHephaestusが作った一揃いの鎧（よろい）もあったThere were Immortal
horse Xanthus and Balius, also a set of
armor made by Hephaestus。
エリス Eris （不和の女神goddess of discord）
招待されなかったエリスErisもやって来てEris who wasn't invited also came over、のちにパリスParisがアプロディテAphroditeに与えたLater Paris gave it to Aphrodite有名な黄金のりんごthe golden appleを贈り物として祝宴の席に投げ入れたshe threw the famous golden apple into the feast as a gift。
テティスThetisは息子son・アキレウスAchillesを産んだが、彼を不死にしようと躍起になった。
Thetis gave birth to his son Achilles,
but rushed to immortalize him.
そうするために彼女は夜アキレウスAchillesを火の中に置きTo do so she put Achilles in the fire at night、彼の体にアンブロシアambrosiaを塗ったShe applied his body with ambrosia。

しかし、そうとは知らぬペレウスPeleusは、息子sonが火の中にいるのを見て、大声をあげた。
But not knowing that, Peleus shouted seeing his son in the fire.
妨害されたテティスThetisはペレウスPeleusのもとを離れ、海seaに戻ってしまった。
The disturbed Thetis left Peleus and returned
to the sea.
Thetis Immerses Son Achilles in Water of River Styx
またテティスThetisはすべての傷に対する免疫をつけさせるためにThetis also aims to immunize against all wounds赤子babyをステュクスStyx川につけたがThetis Immerses the baby in Water of River Styx、その時握っていた赤子babyの踵を濡らすのを忘れforgot to wet the heel of the baby she was holding at that time、そこが急所（伝説的なアキレス腱Legendary
Achilles tendon）となったとする説もあるThere is also a
theory that that was the vital spot。
テティスThetisに去られて子供childを自分で育てなくてはならなくなったPeleus had to raise his child himself after being left by ThetisペレウスPeleusは、息子sonを旧友・ケイロンChironに託したentrusted his son to his old friend, Chiron。
ケイロン Chironとイアソン Jason
ケイロンChironはイアソンJasonを育成した山の中でいまも教育に携わっていた。
Chiron was still involved in education
in the mountains that raised Jason.
ペレウスPeleusのもとは去ったがテティスThetisは今なお息子sonを心から愛しておりAlthough Thetis has left Peleus,
Thetis still loves her son with all her heart、しばしばケイロンChironのもとにいる彼を訪れ慰めたFrequently visited and comforted him under Chiron。
しかし別の説ではBut according to
another theory、この時までに既にケイロンChironは亡くなっていたことになっているBy this time, Chiron is supposed to have died。
ポイニクス Phoenix
ホメロスHomerは、アキレウスAchillesに教育を授けたのは、アミュントルAmyntorの息子sonでオルミニオンの地の父fatherの宮廷courtから逃げて来たポイニクスPhoenixであるとしている。
ペレウスPeleusはポイニクスPhoenixをドロプス人の王king of the Dolopiansにしたという。
他の亡命者もペレウスPeleusの宮廷courtに来たが、その中にはブデイオンのエペイゲウスやパトロクロスPatroclusとその父father・メノイティオスMenoetiusがいた。
トロイア戦争Trojan WarでアキレウスAchillesが死ぬと、老いたペレウスPeleusは、アカストスAcastusの息子sonsたちにプティアPhthiaから追い出され、コス島に逃れた。
ネオプトレモス Neoptolemus アンドロマケ Andromache
戦争後、彼の孫grandson・ネオプトレモスNeoptolemusがプティアPhthiaを再征服し、しばらく統治した。
After the war, his grandson Neoptolemus
reconquered Phthia and reigned for some time.
オレステス Orestesと出会うヘルミオネ Hermione

ネオプトレモスNeoptolemusがエペイロスEpirusに行って留守の間While Neoptolemus goes to Epirus and is away、ペレウスPeleusはネオプトレモスNeoptolemusの妾concubineであるトロイアTroyの王女princess・アンドロマケAndromacheを、彼女に災いを願っていたヘルミオネHermioneとメネラオスMenelausから護ったProtected from Hermione and Menelaus who wished her disaster。
最後はテティスThetisがペレウスPeleusを迎えにやって来た。
At the end, Thetis came to pick up
Peleus.
2人は海seaで一緒に過ごしThe two spend together in the sea、ペレウスPeleusもそこで不死を享受することになったPeleus also enjoyed immortality there。

海のニンフthe sea nymphのネレイデスNereidsの1人。
ネレウスNereusと妻wife・ドリスDorisの娘daughter。
テティスThetisは海の女神sea goddessであったがThetis was the goddess of the sea、ヘラHeraにオリュムポス山Mount Olympusで育てられたため、ヘラHeraを深く愛したshe loved Hera deeply because she was raised on Mount Olympus by
Hera。

しかし、テティスThetisが海底に戻ってからBut after Thetis returned to the ocean floor、ヘラHeraが息子sonのヘパイストスHephaestusの足が悪いのを恥じてHera is ashamed of her son Hephaestus's bad legs、彼をオリュムポスOlympusから投げ落としたときWhen he was thrown from Olympus、テティスThetisとその姉妹sister・エウリュノメEurynomeは彼を救った。
Thetis and her sister Eurynome saved him.
ヘパイストスHephaestusはこの2人のネレイデスNereidsと9年間 Hephaestus has been
with these two Nereids for nine years、海中の彼女たちの家で暮らしたLived in their house under the sea。

テティスThetisがブリアレオスBriareosを喚び出し、ヘラHera、ポセイドンPoseidon、アテナAthenaからゼウスZeusを救う
だが、ヘラHeraがポセイドンPoseidonとアテナAthenaの助けを借りてBut Hera with the help of Poseidon and Athena、ゼウスZeusに反抗し彼を縛り上げようと企むとWhen she tries to rebel against Zeus and tie him up、テティスThetisはヘラHeraとたもとを分かったThetis break off relations with Hera。
