エジプトEgyptは、アフリカ大陸African Continentの東北部northeastern partにあるが、歴史的historicallyには西南アジア方面southwestern Asian areaと密接に結び合っている。

このため第18王朝the Eighteenth Dynastyのアメンホテプ4世Amenhotep IV(在位前1375年1375 BC~1358年1358 BC)は、アモンAmonの崇拝worshipを禁止bannedし、日輪の神the sun godアトンAton(アテンAten)を唯一神the only godとして崇拝worshipedし、自ら名前をイクナートンIkhnaton(アキナートンAkhenaton)と改め、都capitalをアケタトンAkhetaton(現在nowのテル=エル=アマルナTell-el-Amarna)に移した。
