Thessaly

The rapidly maturing infant Hermes crawled away to Thessaly, where by nightfall of his first day he stole some of his half-brother  Apollo's cattle and invented the lyre from a tortoise shell.

Hermes

Mercury)

Mount Cyllene

The baby born at dawn is very precocious、その日の昼ごろには洞穴caveから外へ歩き出すほどになったAround noon that day, he started walking out of the cave。

At that time before cave one tortoise was crawling.

The child picks it up and peels off the carapace and created lyre.

Macedonia

Cupid Rekindling the Torch of Hymen

Hermes

盗んだstole牛cattleは尻尾を引っ張ってPull the tailうしろ向きに歩かせWalk behind、自分の足には草で編んだ奇妙な草履Strange sandals woven from grassをつけ、足跡Footprintsを混乱させConfusing跡をつけられないようにしてDon't leave a mark、ペロポネソス半島the Peloponnesusのアルペイオス川the river Alpheusの河畔RiversideのピュロスPylosまで帰った。

証拠を隠滅するObliterate the evidenceために、牛cattleの蹄や頭は焼きBaked hoofs and head、履いていた草履sandals that he was wearingは川へ捨てたAbandoned in the river。

Apollo

Apollo soon realized that there were no cattle。

バットスBattusはそのため、あとでヘルメスHermesに石に変えられてしまったhe has been turned into a stone。)

Even if he try to wake him up and ask a question、「牛cattle」という言葉さえ知らぬdoesn't even know the wordと、何もかもすっとぼけて否定するEverything is completely blurred and denied。

洞穴caveの中を捜してみたがsearched inside the cave、証拠となる物もないThere is no evidence。

Hermes

Apollo got angry and took him out to Zeus。

Still Hermes skillfully dodges the story、自分は無実だと主張するand claim to be innocent。

In the gap where Apollo turned his back a little、アポロンの矢と矢筒Arrows and quiversまで失敬するfilch始末である。

Hermes

But, as expected, he was all in sight.

Zeus ordered Hermes to return Apollo’s livestock.

While Hermes guides Apollo to the hidden place of livestock、甲羅carapaceで作ったリラlyre(竪琴harp)をつま弾いて聞かせたplayed the lyre made with carapace。

Fascinated by the strange tone, Apollo wanted the lyre.

Of course, that is Hermes’ intention.

Hermes

He decided to make a deal immediately.

Hermes told Apollo that he want him to compensate the stolen cattle。

Hermes also returned Arrows and quivers、それらを盗まれたことさえ気がつかずにいたApollo didn't even realize they were stolenアポロンApolloは驚き面白がったHe was surprised and amused。

After that, they became best friends.

Apollo made Hermes the guardian deity of livestock、小石による占術を教えTeaching divination with pebbles、牛追いの杖・ケリュケイオン(ラテン語でカドゥケウスcaduceus)を与えたgave him a cattle droving wand (caduceus)。

Hera

For the children Zeus gave birth to other women妻・ヘラHeraの嫉妬はあまりに有名であるhis wife Hera’s jealousy is too famous。

Of course, Hermes is no exception.

Somehow Hera likes Hermes and he has to get along with her.

There Hermes wrapped himself in a diaper and was held in Hera’s lap.

Does Hera know it or not、抱いた子供に乳をふくませ慈しんだcherished the child she was holding with milk。

Hera became a nanny in this way以後ヘルメスHermesを我が子のように可愛がったAfter that, she loved Hermes like his own child。

Dionysus

His success as a herald of other gods is spectacular。

First, when Dionysus was born, to prevent Hera’s anger、ディオニュソスDionysusをこっそり誰も知らぬ里に隠したHermes secretly hid Dionysus in a village no one knew。

And Argus was killed on the spot。

Aloadae

When Ares was trapped in a bronze jar by Aloadae、救い出したのもヘルメスHermesであるHermes was the one who rescued him。

Lycaon

Baucis

Zeus descends to the ground、リュカオンLycaonや、ピレモンPhilemonとバウキスBaucisの老夫婦を訪ねるときWhen visiting Lycaon and Philemon and Baucis old couple、そのお供をしたのもヘルメスであるHermes was the one who accompanied Zeus。

Paris

パリスの審判 the Judgement of Paris

Hermes landed on the ground and took the referee by Paris the herdsman。

Odysseus

Circe

Calypso

Overcome their magic and charm and leave the landよう助けたのも、ヘルメスHermesである。

The Nymph Salmacis and Hermaphroditus

Aphrodite

Daphnis et Chloe

Aglaulus

Cephalus and Eos

Apemosyne

Typhon

Charon

Guide the souls of the dead down to the basement、ステュクス川Styxまで導くのである。

Cerberus

Eurydice

Sleeping Diana Watched by Two Fauns

At first glance, she jumped up and left him behind。

He had goat legs and small horns on his headのである。

So nymphs raised him instead of his mother.

(Image of the medieval devil was derived from this figure of Pan.)

Pan Reclining

Hermes proudly showed him to the Olympian gods。

A crude god, he was amorous and always chased after nymphs.

He is also responsible for the breeding of sheep and cattleと考えられた。

If livestock do not breed、パンPanの像が海葱(かいそう)という植物で打たれたPan’s statue was struck by a plant called Drimia maritima。

The Magic of Pan's Flute

Pan wasn't as good as Apollo was, but he was also a musician.

One day a competition was held at Lydia、審判を務めたトモロスTmolusはアポロンApolloに賞を渡したAs a judge, Tmolus gave Apollo an award。

At this time Midas made a stupid criticismロバの耳をもらうことになったgot the donkey's ears。

Midas

When Pan fell in love with Syrinx and chased her、その笛pipesを手に入れたgot the pipes。

Syrinx

逃げるニンフnymphはラドン川the River Ladon岸に着いたがthe nymph runs away, but she arrives at the riverbank、川を横切れないと判断すると絶望してDespair when she decide that she can't cross the river、他のニンフたちnymphsに葦reedsに変身させてくれるよう頼みAsk other nymphs to transform into reeds、願いは聞き入れられたThe wish was heard。

Pan cuts the reeds and collects pieces of different lengths葦笛reed pipeを作ったのであるmade a reed pipe。

Selene

Pan offered Selene beautiful white wool and invited her to the forest and loved her。

Pan was sometimes a terrifying god。

Disturbed to sleep at night and noonと怒った。

Daphnis et Chloe

Raise a horrifying loud voice in their hearts彼らを恐怖状態に陥れたと考えられているIt is believed that they were in a state of horror。
